Acis and Galatea. February 2013

"While it’s fair to say that the New Zealand Opera production of Acis & Galatea held at Tipapa was initially conceived as something of an experiment, it soon became abundantly clear to us that this unique location would create a completely captivating experience for our audience; and so it proved. We were amazed at the remarkable natural acoustic that the Homestead’s terrace provided. There was no need to amplify the singing, as is so often the case for al fresco opera performances, and this in turn created an ambience which led naturally into the graceful picnic supper that took place on the lawns during the interval. We then played the second half of the opera inside the Woolshed itself, and suddenly we had a completely different experience to offer: an intensely intimate and thrilling theatrical space. The whole event proved to be a marvelous experience for audience and performers alike, and we received nothing but glowing feedback. The opera at Tipapa was a unique package of fine opera, fine dining and an exquisite location combining to make a truly memorable occasion."

Aidan Lang, General Director, New Zealand Opera.

“Tipapa – this wonderful property combining the Woolshed, Events Centre, Homestay, is one of those impossibly rare places where to every present thing, from grandest restoration to the smallest corner-set gesture, there seems to have been brought a deliberate, knowing, heartfelt and exquisitely attuned sense of rightness. There is no pomp here, just sincerity and respect.”

Tipapa Woolshed Events Centre

“Tipapa Woolshed was an excellent venue for my summer 2009 fashion show. Pre-lunch Pimms in the beautiful Homestead and lovely gardens, followed by a superb lunch in the Woolshed set the scene for a most successful show of my collection in a unique setting, still talked about a year on. For any event, The Woolshed at Tipapa would be hard to beat as the perfect venue. Warm and stylish, with great atmosphere”.

Jane Daniels, Jane Daniels Design Ltd, Auckland.

“If you’re looking for a venue that is private with all the grace and splendour of an English Country Estate then Tipapa is perfect. From the beginning the team were excellent to deal with, a real focus on the detail to ensure the event went off without a hitch. The old woolshed combines a feeling of warmth and history with all the elements of a modern function venue.”

Craig Patterson, Business Manager, North Canterbury Veterinary Clinics Ltd, North Canterbury.

“Antarctica NZ was pleased to be involved in hosting international representatives of our Antarctic Treaty partners at Tipapa. The combination of superb catering in a uniquely New Zealand woolshed environment was a particular highlight for our international visitors – a real ‘taste of New Zealand’ in such a wonderful setting”.

Lou Sanson, Chief Executive, Antarctica New Zealand, Christchurch.

“The Woolshed at Tipapa provided a truly unique and ideal venue for an intimate and extraordinary evening of music, food and friends. The musicians commented on the quality of the acoustics”.

Kevin A. Lefohn, Artistic Administrator, Christchurch Symphony Orchestra.

“It was my absolute pleasure to attend a VIP Antarctic event at Tipapa-hosted by John Carr. The venue was a delightful mix of the exquisite British Colonial with quintessential rural Canterbury. The atmosphere was friendly and cheerful and John and his team were splendid hosts making all feel welcome and comfortable. The international guests were awed with the beauty of the homestead and gardens and delighted by the charm and history of the woolshed and surrounding buildings. Dinner was a treat of local cuisine cooked to perfection.I would thoroughly recommend this venue for a conference for out of town guests wanting a unique first class experience.”.
